Mark Marooth
Mark comes to the Volunteer Centre following a career in Software & Hardware Development, Corporate and Academic Management.
Mark was born in Liverpool but grew up in sunny Queensland after his family migrated to Australia in 1973.  Following University, he worked around Australia and the world developing Computer Software.  After a stint in the USA, Mark returned to the UK where he settled in Scotland.
Mark and his second wife purchased a Croft and House on the Isle of Lewis in 2019.
Mark retired from The University of Aberdeen in 2020, just prior to the beginning of the Pandemic and finding himself unable to move to Lewis, went to work with a major supermarket chain.  It was a big difference to wearing a suit however he thoroughly enjoyed the change and being able to help in those early days of the Pandemic.
Mark and his wife Helen now live full time on Lewis.  Helen is a Salvation Army Officer;  they are both active in their church and community as well as working and taking care of the Croft.
Mark’s career has spanned many industries which include Banking, Finance, Defence, Telecoms, Engineering and IT Infrastructure however Mark’s first passion is the restoration of cars.  He is currently restoring a 1984 Lotus Excel.  Mark is also a very keen Photographer and latterly, through the Pandemic, Videographer, producing church worship online material.
Mark has two children from his first marriage who are 19 and 21 and is “Grand Mark” to Helen’s grandchildren, here on Lewis.
