Any young folk out there interested in taking over An Lanntair??? Read on for more info........

As part of the Year of Young People An Lanntair are planning on delivering a youth festival called Las / Ignite. The festival will be a 'take over' week in October 2018 by young people of An Lanntair. Young people will be in charge of programming the auditorium with gigs, films, theatre or whatever they see as being important. They will curate exhibitions for the auditorium, bar and mezzanine space. They will also be responsible for marketing, design, promotion and stewarding. As part of the festival they will also be organising a conference looking at young people and the creative industries. The youth board is key to the festival as they will be steering the direction of the project along with the festival coordinator who will also be under 26 and appointed by the Youth Board.

It has been an amazing year at the Retirement Centre. Firstly Donnie Dotaman asked in January to do a TV show on the Centre. We owe an enormous thank you to all the businesses, tradesmen, tradeswomen and individuals that gave their time, materials and money to create such a wonderful upgrade to the Centre, it looks fabulous! And now the Stornoway Amenities Trust have awarded us the George Newhall Shield for Community Public Service. This is not just for me. This is a reflection on the hard work and dedication of a whole host of volunteers who give their time and skills to keep the Centre run...

A huge well done to Donald McKee and his team of volunteers.

What’s involved?

There are different ways you can support Samaritans as a volunteer.

"We are known for the support we offer our callers on the phone but we also offer support by email, SMS, face to face and through written correspondence. Helping Samaritans in this way is known as a listening volunteer. Training is provided."

"One thing that I always take away from a shift is the ‘feel-good factor’. Working in an environment with positive people and occasionally being told that just being there made all the difference to someone’s life, is reward enough for me."
