As part of the Year of Young People An Lanntair are planning on delivering a youth festival called Las / Ignite. The festival will be a 'take over' week in October 2018 by young people of An Lanntair. Young people will be in charge of programming the auditorium with gigs, films, theatre or whatever they see as being important. They will curate exhibitions for the auditorium, bar and mezzanine space. They will also be responsible for marketing, design, promotion and stewarding. As part of the festival they will also be organising a conference looking at young people and the creative industries. The Volunteer Centre Western Isles (Stornoway) and Councillor Charlie Nicolson visited the local branch of the Salvation Army to hand over the toys that were donated by the kind people of Lewis and Harris for the Salvation Army Christmas Toy Appeal.

A reminder that young people from across the Western Isles can apply for #Create18 fund - it's a unique opportunity to create your own special events and in your community.
Create18 events could be anything from film festivals, gigs, theatre and dance performances, to art exhibitions, sports competitions, fashion shows and nature trails. Up to £1,000 is available and you can apply until January 22nd.

It has been an amazing year at the Retirement Centre. Firstly Donnie Dotaman asked in January to do a TV show on the Centre. We owe an enormous thank you to all the businesses, tradesmen, tradeswomen and individuals that gave their time, materials and money to create such a wonderful upgrade to the Centre, it looks fabulous!
And now the Stornoway Amenities Trust have awarded us the George Newhall Shield for Community Public Service. This is not just for me. This is a reflection on the hard work and dedication of a whole host of volunteers who give their time and skills to keep the Centre run...
