British Sign Language Webinar

contactSCOTLAND-BSL is Scotland’s nationally funded (Scottish Government) online British Sign Language (BSL) interpreting video relay service (VRS). The service is delivered by Sign Language Interactions on behalf of the Scottish Government.

The service enables Scotland’s BSL/Deaf community to make contact with all public bodies and third sector organisations. Since June this year the service has been extended to 24/7 provision and allows calls to the private sector which is now in scope of the service, this is in addition to public and voluntary sectors as mentioned.

contactSCOTLAND-BSL is now in the fourth year of provision and call volumes are ever-increasing. During October this year we handled well over 1,600 calls. Less than 10% of these calls were to the third sector/voluntary organisations. We would like to promote the services to both third sector organisations and members of the deaf community.

To assist us with ‘getting the word’ out, we have scheduled a webinar for Thursday 23rd January 2020 at 2.30-3.30pm.
We will be providing a brief overview of the service:
• what is contactSCOTLAND-BSL
• how it is used
• how you can promote access for Deaf BSL users
• arranging on-site visits/staff training etc

Webinar will be using the Zoom platform.

Places are limited, however we would like to take this opportunity to encourage as many third sector/voluntary organisation as possible to secure a place.

Places can be booked via Eventbrite: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/o/sign-language-interactions-18238663160
