contactSCOTLAND-BSL is Scotland’s nationally funded (Scottish Government) online British Sign Language (BSL) interpreting video relay service (VRS). The service is delivered by Sign Language Interactions on behalf of the Scottish Government. The service enables Scotland’s BSL/Deaf community to make contact with all public bodies and third sector organisations. To assist us with ‘getting the word’ out, we have scheduled a webinar for Thursday 23rd January 2020 at 2.30-3.30pm.
This Christmas, the Volunteer Centre Western Isles are working in partnership with the NHS Western Isles Community Navigators to support adults in Lewis and Harris who may be lonely or socially isolated.
Our next Volunteer Network Meeting will be in Carloway on Monday 25th November in the Carloway School Annexe from 7.30 – 9pm.
The GVC Fund is now open for applications. The aim of the fund is to support local communities and projects with a focus on sports and healthy activities in addition to their being a preference for men’s health projects. Volunteering Matters Action Earth 2019 Grants Volunteering Matters Action Earth empowers people in Scotland to take action and improve their local environment through volunteering. Any group of volunteers can apply for Volunteering Matters Action Earth grants of between £50-250 to run environmentaxl activities in Scotland’s green spaces. This could include creating or improving community gardens,
Challenge Poverty Week has been coordinated by the Poverty Alliance for the last seven years, and it is an opportunity to highlight what is being done to address poverty and to commit to more action in the future. Last year nearly 200 events were organised by organisations, individuals and elected representatives as part of Challenge Poverty Week
Scotland’s Women Stand is a movement to support and empower the women of Scotland to stand for political office. A major focus of this movement is a massive event we’re hosting at the Scottish Parliament on 7th September, where we’re bringing 400 women together for an inspirational day of keynote speeches, workshops, and networking.
Alongside the Scottish Parliament event and also on Saturday, 7th September, we’re running four “regional hubs” across the country and one of these four regional hubs will be taking place at Comhairle nan Eilean Siar in Stornoway, on 7th September, from 9:30AM – 3PM.
